    Ahh, squishy.

These optimize bonding time between you and your handlebar. A little squishy, really grippy, and plenty long enough. DISH SOAP IS THE SECRET TO APPLYING THEM. You're welcome.

    ESI Extra Chunky Silicone Grips

Posted by JW on 31st May 2017

Bought these to go with an Aluminum SG Loop Bar. Recommend them. Put the regular ESI grips on my town bike, an old (1990) solid-frame trek MTB on which I installed a "Northroad" style handlebar and use as my town and road bike. I found that the regular ESI's pretty much took care of hand numbness for me, so I went for the Extra-Chunky when I bought the SG H-bar for my other bike, a Salsa Bucksaw. A bit of a pain to install but otherwise very highly recommended.

    Super Comfy

These Chunky grips came with my Jones Spaceframe when I first got it. They are very comfortable and feel great even without gloves. I had to play around with the length of the grips because I wanted my brakes to be a little closer to the ends of the H-bar. I also ride in the tight confines of East Coast trails so the ends would get chewed up going through tight trails that go between trees or when I layed the bike on it's side. Removing and installing takes a bit of effort, but once installed they don't move at all on the bar. If you have small hands like me, with thick winter gloves the grips would feel too thick and it was harder to control the bike. I would swap them out in the winter with some thin but long lock on grips. It's also worth mentioning that the thickness is not the same all around. You should put the thicker, cushier part where your palm would rest and the thinner part under your brake levers/shifters.

ESI Chunky Grips and Jones Loop H-bar

Posted by CanyonBluffs on 24th Apr 2017

This past Saturday I went on a fairly long city tour with my new Jones Loop H-bar and fresh ESI Chunky grips. Prior to installing this new equipment, I was vexed by numbness in my wrists and forearms. The Loop gives me so many different options for hand positions now. The chunky grips provide an extra measure of cushioning when passing over bumps, or cracks in the pavement, or just rough road surface. I did not on the Saturday ride, so I am very satisfied with the performance of this equipment on my bicycle.

Tough to get on, but once there, they are comfy and really long for more hand positions. Short term review only as of now.

    Extra chunky and looking good!

I've had these installed for a couple weeks now and they were super easy to install and they look and feel great! I've been riding exclusively on asphalt since installation but have no doubt they'll take the edge off washboard, roots and rocks! My hands don't slip and all and stay where I put them. I watched a YouTube video for installation where a guy poured rubbing alcohol onto the bar ends, plugged one end of the grips, poured a little into the grips, shook it, then slid it on. I did the same and installation was a breeze and they haven't shifted or twisted at all even in the cold and rain. They are great insulators against the cold metal. I highly recommend!
