Jones Plus 148 Complete Bicycle

These builds are the result of years of working with customers to build them the best bikes for their needs combined with Jeff's own riding experience: these are our most recommended builds.

All complete bicycles are assembled starting with one of our production Jones framesets, and our handbuilt wheels.  The bicycle is then carefully built up to order in our shop from start to finish.  After assembly, we do a thorough test ride with bumps, jumps and hard braking to settle everything in and make sure it's properly adjusted before the final tuning, cleaning, and packing.

Jones Plus Small (23") Spaceframe: 5' - 5'8"

Jones Plus Medium (24") Diamond Frame: 5'7" - 6'2"

Jones Plus Large (25") Diamond Frame: 6' - 6-6"

*Please note that sizing is dependent on many factors such as riding type and style, physical limitations (ie neck or back issues), cargo room etc.  If you are unsure about sizing, feel free to give us a call!  Additionally let us know your height, any back issues, what you've been riding, how you plan on using this bike, what saddle you will be using (if you don't get one with the bike) and any other information that you think might be relevant for fit or setup in the notes section at checkout and we will recommend a good stem length and proper seatpost offset.  We will recommend a suitable steerer tube length but will leave it uncut in case you want a little extra height.

Standover Height (measured at the center of the top tube).

Small: 26.5"

Medium: 31.5"

Large: 33"

Please see the following links for detailed information and geometry on the Spaceframe Plus and Diamond frame Plus.

Option 1:  Shimano 2x11 speed XT drivetrain with Avid BB7 cable actuated, fluid-free brakes.  With the XT drivetrain you will get a cassette range of 11-42t combined with 36/26t chainrings for a wide gear range.  Avid BB7 brakes deliver great performance, durability and reliability while also being highly adjustable and easy to service.  Avid BB7's are paired with Avid's Speed Dial 7 levers for a smooth and powerful lever feel.

Option 2:  Shimano 2x11 speed XT drivetrain with Shimano XT brakes.  You will get the same wide gear range as the first option, but the XT brakeset is hydraulic instead of cable actuated.  The XT Hydraulic brakes are very powerful and have a smooth lever feel at a lower weight than a cable-actuated brake.

Option 3:  SRAM Eagle drivetrain with Guide RSC brakes. The 1x12 speed SRAM Eagle is the lightest and simplest of the drivetrain options.   With a cassette range of 10-50t paired with a 32 tooth chainring and no front derailleur, the Eagle's gear range is almost the same as the 2x11 XT drivetrain.  This option includes SRAM Guide RSC brakes which deliver solid, powerful four piston braking performance with great lever feel.

*Avid BB7 brakeset includes Jagwire KEB-SL compressionless brake housing for smooth, firm and very responsive cable-actuated braking performance.

**All drivetrain options use 5mm Shimano SP-51 housing, which is larger, has lower friction, and is more durable than 4mm housing usually found as standard.  Stainless steel slick shifter cables are used for low friction and rust-free performance.

***All brakeset options have a front 203mm brake rotor and a rear 180mm brake rotor.  This combination delivers more power, has better feel and less brake fade than smaller sized rotors which usually come stock on complete bicycles.

Option 1: The Race Face ARC 45 is a light (690g) and durable tubeless ready rim with an internal width of 45mm and a positive bead lock.  These rims provide a great choice for most riders and come standard on our Jones Plus Completes.

Option 2: The Jones C-Rim takes things to a whole other level!  At nearly 100g lighter (595g avg.) than the ARC, a deep profile and an internal width of 49mm, these tubeless ready rims are nearly indestructalbe.  When running a tubeless setup, the wide rim width prevents tire fold in hard corners and is stable at low pressure.  The pronounced bead lock is exceptional and prevents the tire from peeling off when you're pushing the tires to their limits.

All of our complete bikes come standard with a black, butted aluminum Loop H-Bar,  Jones 50D H-Grips and Jones H-Bar Tape.    If weight savings is your goal, you can opt for the Carbon 710 Loop H-Bar which is 47% lighter at only 275g!

We use Thomson X4 black stems and Thomson Elite seatposts (unless you opt for a dropper post), and we will help you choose your stem length using the height measurements and comments you provide.  Please let us know if you plan on using a traditional Brooks saddle, which tends to work best with more seatpost offset, so that we can adjust the selection accordingly.

Option 1: The Thomson Elite seatpost has been around for over 20 years and is a tried and true workhorse.  It really doesn't get much better than this!

Option 2: The Thomson Dropper Post is great for adjusting you saddle height technical descents or for making it easier to put a foot down at a stoplight!  We have found these to be one of the most reliable dropper posts currently available.

WTB Speed saddles (Jeff's favorite) are extremely comfortable with ample padding, while still retaining dimensions that allow for efficient pedaling.

Option 1: WTB Speed Comp has steel rails, a synthetic cover and standard padding (369g)

Option 2: WTB Speed Pro has cromoly rails, microfiber cover and DNA padding (281g)

Option 3: WTB Speed Team has titanium rails, microfiber cover and DNA padding (260g)

All tires measure 29x3in and perform well in a multitude of situations but have subtle differences.

Option 1: The WTB Ranger is a good general off-road and mixed-use tire with a nice rounded profile, and comes standard on our builds.

Option 2: The Maxxis Chronicle, compared to the Ranger, has a thicker casing with shorter knobs that consequently is quieter on the road and holds up to rocks better.  This is our go-to bikepacking tire.

Option 3: The Bontrager Chupacabra is the highest volume and lightest option with a more open tread pattern.
