NEWS
2005 was a busy year here in the shop. I'm having a great time.

I'm going to start sending out emails every once in a while. They will include things such as photos and info on new bikes and designs, new components, news, links and rides among other things. Thank you all for the support and good words you have given me. I really appreciate it. It means a lot to me. I love bikes and I love people who love bikes.

It's for Steve in San Diego. You may know him online as Aquaholic. When Steve's build was getting closer he decided to come up and do some riding with me on my local trails. He rode two of my bikes and got a feel for how they rode. He also wanted to try 29" wheels. He's posted the pictures from his visit here as well as some of the pictures I sent him during the build on a forum on mtbr.com. Here are some links to mtbr forum threads if you would like to see more pictures and info on his bike and build (first, second thread). And
Steve can ride a bike: first impressions (mtbr forum).

Here are some studio shots taken after the test rides and final tune.

Jones Mod. XTR single speed crank-set
I've been modifying XTR cranks for my bikes by removing the big ring tabs then machining it down and removing the stock finish. I end up with a very light and stiff single ring crank set. They are great for singlespeeds. You can also use them with a granny gear and run them as a 2 ring crank set. If you would like a set or have any questions about them send me an email. I sometimes make some extra cranks available.

The Waiting List
The waiting list was started after I stopped taking definite orders. With so many wanting a bike I couldn't give out accurate delivery dates and I didn't want to mislead people with false expectations. I also wanted to concentrate on the bike in hand without the pressure of confirmed orders going out for years.

The bikes I build vary in the time they take to design and build. I'm not giving estimates for when I may build for everyone on the list. I design, create and test each bike myself. They are each unique builds to suit the rider. I design my bikes for the best performance, not to be easy to build, in fact most of them are difficult and time consuming to build. I enjoy building bicycles and don't want to rush it.

The waiting list has been growing faster than I can build bikes - as it stands there is over 10 years of bike-building there. The waiting list is for waiting to hear from me, when I'm ready to take more orders. I will contact people when I've caught up with the work I have. If the list grows at a quicker rate than I can build bikes the reality is that some people on it will not get a bike at all. I will manage the list as well as I can - I need to maintain a good life/work/riding balance :O)

I'm not building hundreds of bikes a year. I build as many bikes as I can, while running a business (Bikes, H-bars and cranks) and having a family and riding. One must not forget riding. I wish I could build a bike for everyone. I could build bikes faster if I brought in some help and/or designed bikes that were quick and easy to build. I don't want to do that. I have to create the very best riding bikes imaginable.

Thanks for your understanding and patience.

I have more to write but the shop is calling. Thanks again for the
support and I hope you're getting some good rides in.

I try to answer all the email I get quickly but sometimes it may take a few days for me to get back to you. Sometimes it's easier for me to answer a question with a quick phone call. If possible include a phone number (and a good time for me to call) in your email.

SWWC05
I took a break from building and went to the 2005 Single Speed World Championships at Penn State in Pennsylvania. I had a great time with all the great people and the excellent course. Here are some pictures*.

Loitering
The weather was hot and humid. I had a hard time staying hydrated and started to cramp up a few times, but it was all good. There's a good gallery of the SSWC on the internet.
I still can't get over how much fun the event was.

Evolution
I'm developing my bicycle designs all the time. The current creation sees a variation with the stays and top tube. More details in my next email.
