What happened when? The story of my thinking and progression as the Jeff Jones bicycle has evolved is here. Bicycles, discoveries, experiments and the like. I will add to it and fill in the gaps as and when... 
This is the bike I built in 2003 that really re-opened my eyes to what a non-suspended bike can be. I showed this bike at InterBike in 2004. It had 26" wheels but what made the difference was that the truss fork had more rake than normal and the head angle was slacker than normal. This geometry, along with the more compliant frame design and the responsiveness of the truss fork really made for a ride that satisfied me more than the bikes I had with “normal” (less rake, steeper angles, longer trail) geometry. Doing this with 29” wheels made it even better. 
This is one of the 29" wheeled bikes I built in 2005 to experiment with this geometry and to find the limits of vertical compliance. This one had even more rake. 
I did a downhill race on the bike. It went well. 
This has lead to Merlin producing framesets to my designs. 
This is the production bike with full fenders (and a prototype 'low rider' rack in the lower picture). It used to be built up as a road bike. I wrote about it in my blog. I like that it is a good road bicycle and still very good on tight single track. 
Since then I've been investigating front-end performance with new wheel, hub and tire combinations. This has lead to new (truss) fork variations. 
And this is a (new) steel version of a Jones' geometry bicycle. This one has a fork that takes a 135mm front hub which allows a very strong and stiff wheel. 
 I am very pleased with where I've got to. The bikes are riding very well, with or without gears. I'm not stopping though - many more ideas to explore. |
