Jones SG 2.5 Aluminum Loop H-Bar

Jeff hears from a lot of riders who need to get their bars higher, and while his framesets make that easy, many riders are installing H-Bars on other brands of bikes with a normal, lower stack height in order to get more comfort and control.  For them, and everyone else who wants to get their bars higher, we have the new SG 2.5 Aluminum Loop H-Bar!  Think of the 2.5 as an alternative to a 2" stack of headset spacers combined with a standard H-Bar, which has .5" of rise.

Also a great bar on a Jones Bike for the rider who wants maximum handlebar height!

This H-Bar is essentially an SG Loop H-Bar with 2.5" of rise compared to the standard .5" of rise on all of the other H-Bars.  Do you have a bike with a short head tube?  Your back and neck want this bar!  Are you wondering if it's safe to install a steerer tube extender on a steerer tube extender?  Get this H-Bar and you won't need to find out!

The SG 2.5 Loop H-Bar shares the same comfortable 45 degree sweep, black or silver colors options, 660mm or 710mm widths, 31.8mm clamp diameter, and standard 22.2mm grip area diameter for flat bar/mountain bike controls with the rest of the Aluminum H-Bars.  The main differences that you'll notice when riding the SG 2.5 vs the standard SG Aluminum Loop H-Bar is that the 2.5 is 2 inches higher—which makes it ideal for bikes with front ends that are too low—and that the rear crossbar swoops down to the stem, rather than curving mostly back as on the rest of the H-Bars.  We hope that this newest H-Bar will help more riders get more comfortable on their bikes!

We get a lot of questions about whether this H-Bar will work with our Loophole H-Bar Pack, and the answer is yes!  The pack fits less tightly, and will be tilted on this H-Bar, but from our experience, it works just fine.

The SG 2.5 Aluminum Loop H-Bar weighs approximately 25 grams more than the SG Aluminum Loop H-Bar, so it's actually a very light-weight way to get a much higher stack—especially when compared to a steerer tube extender or even a longer steerer tube and extra spacers.

Weights

660mm 2.5 SG Aluminum Loop H-Bar: 635 grams

710 2.5 SG Aluminum Loop H-Bar: 650 grams

Testing

The SG 2.5 Aluminum Loop H-Bars pass the same stringent EN Mountain Bike Standards as all of our other H-Bars.

All Jones H-Bars use a 31.8mm stem clamp diameter, 22.2mm clamp size for controls (standard mountain bike style).  The entire front loop has a 22.2mm diameter.

The Loop H-Bar has the same hand, stem and brake lever position as the original H-Bar but the cross bar sweeps forward to allow the levers to go behind the cross bar instead of in front. This gives longer uninterrupted hand positions and will allow trigger and grip/twist shifters to fit on the rearward extensions (unlike the original H-Bar and the Cut H-Bar). The continuous front loop of the bar enhances stiffness and is good for additional aero hand positions and mounting lights, GPS devices etc. This bar provides comfort and power with an impressive weight. With the levers in the optimum position the rider is superbly placed for fast riding while still enjoying all the hand positions available. The rearward extensions allow extra leverage and a wider hand position - be it for comfort or power. All H-bars are for a 31.8 stem.

Refer to the H-Bar Manual for set-up tips!

We highly recommend checking out our selection of longer grips and bar tape specifically designed for the 710mm and 660mm H-Bars.  Using longer grips is KEY to getting the full range of positions, and therefore comfort, that the H-Bars are capable of delivering!

Great for; Singlespeeds, 29ers, Fat Bikes, Touring, Bike-packing Adventures, City Riding and more!
Compatible with; Singlespeeds, Trigger shifters, Gripshift, Shimano twist shifters, Rohloff and above the bar hinged thumb-shifters.

Just as awesome as the Loop H-Bar, but this one sits me up a little more & so is more comfortable for me.

Jones SG 2.5 Aluminum Loop H-Bar

I installed these bars on my 17.5” Trek Mambo, and swapping the 95mm stem to a 35mm stem. The 2.5” rise in the bars is a good fit for 5’ 10” body not to be too extended over the front of the bike. The 710 mm width is a plus for adjusting ride position.

These are the best bars I have ever used for a mountain bike. They are very comfortable after 4 to 5 hours of riding. When I stand up to pedal it feels like I am on an ebike. Also, the bars are nicer for getting the weight over the rear wheel for riding down hills.

Plus a last benefit is there is lots of room for attaching accessories on the bars. I highly recommend this product.

    Awesome on a Montague Paratrooper!

I really like this new style h-bar as it actually raises the handlebar height approximately 2 inches. That plus all the advantages of the original makes this my go-to handlebar.

    H- Bars in Aluminum

Posted by Mitch Dunasky on 6th Nov 2017

Just got them installed over the weekend and love them. It is great having choices on hand positions. I really like the ability to move way back on the bars in the upright position which is 90% of my riding these days.

Really like the rider position these bars give.
I never did like leaning in my handle bars.
Grew up riding off road motir cycles, and you don't lean over on bars on these.
    Jones figured that out.

    2.5 Aluminum Loop H-bar

I spent the last two days riding my Salsa Beargrease along the Yampa Bench Road in Dinosaur National Monument with these bars. No neck pain which had been my problem. The front loop is great for climbing. Spent most of the time in the mid positon on this up and down route. The only minus is the weight -hope they become popular enough to produce in a lighter material

    Just what I needed!

Posted by Adam on 24th Oct 2017

I loved my Jones Loop H-Bar before, but due to my steer tube being cut too low, could never get them high enough for true all day comfort. That's no longer the case! These have the same great feel as my standard loop bar, but the rise has made them so much more comfortable! Thanks!!!

    Perfect handlebar raised into reached

Posted by Alexander HunoldC on 23rd Oct 2017

With the H-bar already enjoying a great reputation among bikepackers, mountain bikers and bike tourists, making this raised version is a welcome answer for those looking for a higher handlebar.

This bar brings the hands into a comfortable, relaxed position that does not take anything away from the agility and slow speed maneuverability of the bike. I bought and installed the first one for my wife, and will be getting this raiser H-bar for my fat bike and commuter soon.
