Jones SG 2.5 Aluminum Loop H-Bar

Jeff hears from a lot of riders who need to get their bars higher, and while his framesets make that easy, many riders are installing H-Bars on other brands of bikes with a normal, lower stack height in order to get more comfort and control.  For them, and everyone else who wants to get their bars higher, we have the new SG 2.5 Aluminum Loop H-Bar!  Think of the 2.5 as an alternative to a 2" stack of headset spacers combined with a standard H-Bar, which has .5" of rise.

Also a great bar on a Jones Bike for the rider who wants maximum handlebar height!

This H-Bar is essentially an SG Loop H-Bar with 2.5" of rise compared to the standard .5" of rise on all of the other H-Bars.  Do you have a bike with a short head tube?  Your back and neck want this bar!  Are you wondering if it's safe to install a steerer tube extender on a steerer tube extender?  Get this H-Bar and you won't need to find out!

The SG 2.5 Loop H-Bar shares the same comfortable 45 degree sweep, black or silver colors options, 660mm or 710mm widths, 31.8mm clamp diameter, and standard 22.2mm grip area diameter for flat bar/mountain bike controls with the rest of the Aluminum H-Bars.  The main differences that you'll notice when riding the SG 2.5 vs the standard SG Aluminum Loop H-Bar is that the 2.5 is 2 inches higher—which makes it ideal for bikes with front ends that are too low—and that the rear crossbar swoops down to the stem, rather than curving mostly back as on the rest of the H-Bars.  We hope that this newest H-Bar will help more riders get more comfortable on their bikes!

We get a lot of questions about whether this H-Bar will work with our Loophole H-Bar Pack, and the answer is yes!  The pack fits less tightly, and will be tilted on this H-Bar, but from our experience, it works just fine.

The SG 2.5 Aluminum Loop H-Bar weighs approximately 25 grams more than the SG Aluminum Loop H-Bar, so it's actually a very light-weight way to get a much higher stack—especially when compared to a steerer tube extender or even a longer steerer tube and extra spacers.

Weights

660mm 2.5 SG Aluminum Loop H-Bar: 635 grams

710 2.5 SG Aluminum Loop H-Bar: 650 grams

Testing

The SG 2.5 Aluminum Loop H-Bars pass the same stringent EN Mountain Bike Standards as all of our other H-Bars.

All Jones H-Bars use a 31.8mm stem clamp diameter, 22.2mm clamp size for controls (standard mountain bike style).  The entire front loop has a 22.2mm diameter.

The Loop H-Bar has the same hand, stem and brake lever position as the original H-Bar but the cross bar sweeps forward to allow the levers to go behind the cross bar instead of in front. This gives longer uninterrupted hand positions and will allow trigger and grip/twist shifters to fit on the rearward extensions (unlike the original H-Bar and the Cut H-Bar). The continuous front loop of the bar enhances stiffness and is good for additional aero hand positions and mounting lights, GPS devices etc. This bar provides comfort and power with an impressive weight. With the levers in the optimum position the rider is superbly placed for fast riding while still enjoying all the hand positions available. The rearward extensions allow extra leverage and a wider hand position - be it for comfort or power. All H-bars are for a 31.8 stem.

Refer to the H-Bar Manual for set-up tips!

We highly recommend checking out our selection of longer grips and bar tape specifically designed for the 710mm and 660mm H-Bars.  Using longer grips is KEY to getting the full range of positions, and therefore comfort, that the H-Bars are capable of delivering!

Great for; Singlespeeds, 29ers, Fat Bikes, Touring, Bike-packing Adventures, City Riding and more!
Compatible with; Singlespeeds, Trigger shifters, Gripshift, Shimano twist shifters, Rohloff and above the bar hinged thumb-shifters.

    Natural feeling bars

Posted by Cuong Fan on 9th Jan 2018

I put these on my enduro mountain bike because I always felt the straight bars, although they give great control, didn't feel right. These Jones SG Loop H-Bar felt more natural. I don't mind the second take looks I get when I'm riding in comfort.

This bar defies all expectations. I cannot wait to upgrade to the titanium on on my bike. I purchased the aluminum one just to be safe, now I am definitely going Ti!

    Loop H Bars

I love these bars. I’ve installed them on my two fat bikes. They provide me with a more natural and comfortable riding position. These are the best addition I’ve made to my bikes.

    2.5 Raised Loop H-Bar

Posted by Launce on 16th Dec 2017

Just installed these on my new mountain bike. They make me happy.
I'm 69, retired, bought a little Airstream, wanted to carry something to explore day rides near a campground -- basically like hiking easy trails and jeep roads, but faster and covering more ground.
I bought a Motobecane 29er online. Large-frame (I'm 6'2"). Full suspension for my old bones and tendons. Nice and light. Tested great on local gravel and singletrack.
But the straight bars just didn't work for me. Elbows sticking out. I found I kept trying to ride with the bottom of my wrists, so I could relax the angle. I thought, "These are too straight. Drop bars put me down too low. What I'd really like are the bars on the kid's bike I rode in 1954."
These are they! Except hi-tech, light and strong. The swept angle is great, and the extra height is easy on the wrists, back, and neck. Also shifts my weight back (if I have to fall, I'd sooner slide off the back than go OTB).
My existing brake and gear controls went on smoothly. I already had some chunky grips, and if I cut one in half, that neatly made up the extra length on the 710mm bars. And bonus: I could mount the clip for my handlebar bag down at the stem AND have plenty of room for my headlight shining over the bag on the raised front loop!
Can't wait for spring camping season.

    so much better!

Posted by clint scruggs on 13th Dec 2017

I love the way my new bars look and feel. The new position I can ride in keeps the cramp away from the palm of my hands. Better posture too. Love the extra room for lights and phones. Even have a cup holder now. Thank you Luna Cycle for recommending these bars. Putting them on my wife and son's bike as well.

    Jones SG 2.5 Aluminum

I substituted the SG 0.5 for the SG 2.5. The latter is a marked improvement. First, though I am 6 foot 3 inches, I prefer the rise of the bar for my commuter bike. Second, I was able to correspondingly shorten my steer tube stack of spacers, and third, I chose the narrower bars, which seem to provide more responsive steering. Overall, I love the new bars. Jones should now make the same changes to your Ti and other featured finishes bars.

The 2.5" rise is just what I needed. The wrist angle is perfect. Bars seem a bit wide but will probably get used to that.
